Talking To The Moon
  • Talking To The Moon
  • Parfum 50ML
  • $160 USD

Inspired by Su Shi’s timeless poem Prelude to Water Melody, this perfume captures the bittersweet solitude of drinking alone beneath the moon. The perfumer’s intention is to evoke a sense of impermanence and nostalgia, reminiscent of lost friends and the fleeting nature of life.

Upper notes:

Moon: Borneol, olibanum, frankincense

Liquor: Maotai-flavor, absinthe

Wind: Oakmoss

Lower notes:

Sleepless: Sandalwood, orris

Regret: Osmanthus, castoreum

Serene: Cashmeran

Borneol, one of the four traditional Chinese incense ingredients, is often used in eternal lamps. In this fragrance, the perfumer uses it to evoke the bitter chill of moonlight and the endless night.

Castoreum, a rare natural animalic note, has historically been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat hysteria and insomnia. The perfumer harnesses its emotive qualities to mimic the warm sensation of tears welling up.

Interestingly, the combination of these two ingredients creates a distinct ink-like aroma, which the perfumer later realized was an unintentional homage to the ancient Chinese practice of blending borneol and musk to create Imperial Ink.
